For those of you who don't frequent Ladymecha's or the FUS board anymore, there's big news going down in the Sonic world . . . there's the sudden possibility that we may get all of the SatAM Sonic episodes as well as all of the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog episodes and a bunch of neato keeno extra stuff on a spiffy little DVD collection called Totally Sonic! It's supposed to be released about the same time as Sega puts out the newest Sonic vidgame, Sonic Heroes (which is awesome in its own right, naturally). Read one of the very few news announcements about this most greatest of special events HERE!They're going to be showing it off at Mipcom, which is sort of like a Cannes festival (it's being held in Cannes, France, in fact) for TV shows instead of movies. Personally, I think this is great because it shows a sort of teamwork effort between DiC and Sega that hasn't really played out well in the past. And, of course, the fact that we're going to get all of the SatAM and AoStH episodes in digitally enhanced DVD splendour! WHOO! EDIT: Oh, I should add ('cause I don't think I made it clear enough) that this is almost entirely speculation. Since there is so little information regarding Totally Sonic!, it's not entirely certain that SatAM will be a part of it. The signs all point towards it, yes, but none of the news posts specifically name which Sonic series the DVDs will contain. About the only one that can be safely counted out is Sonic X . . . but I'm excitedl regardless, as I'd still buy it if it were AoStH and Sonic Underground, since I'm all about all forms of Sonic. ;D

Okay, so I'm here to rain on everyone's parade now. After further speculation and talking with other Sonic fans on other message boards and stuff, it now seems less likely that Totally Sonic! is going to be a DVD collection. It's still within the realm of possibility, don't get me wrong, but . . . well. Anyway. It would seem more likely, in any case, that DiC is trying to sell SatAM and AoStH in a huge bundle as a syndicated series to European TV stations. This is really their best chance to sell the show and prove that both series are still viable, as the folks at Disney are the ones keeping them from distributing the show over here in the States (and possibly all of North America, the bastards). Hopefully, if Totally Sonic! does well over there, the big D will see that it can do well over here, and DiC will be allowed to restart production of the SatAM DVDs, or any other Sonic merchandise they decide to put out. So you European types better make sure this works out, neh? We're all counting on you!

Well this may all be crap that you guys already know, so don't break out the nOOb bats iffin ya do. But from what's been circulating around FUS, and other such places, Totally Sonic does include SatAM. As to wether or not AoStH or SU is the companion program, I can't really say. There's been a lot of speculation on FUS (for those of us that don't frequent the board anymore) that the little extras that they were talking about may include a peek into Season 3, but I doubt it. Nique thinks they may have been talking about Sonic X there.

N00B BAT! *fwap* Anywho, nah, more than likely it's AoStH because 1) the episode numbers would add up exactly right, 2) one of the newsposts mentioned an updated version of Christmas Sonic, which was the AoStH special that had a cameo appearance by Princess Sally, and 3) most people tend to pile AoStH and SatAM together anyway for some reason, so DiC probably just decided to make it that way to lead into people's expectations. However, I wonder if this'll work out well enough when people get treated to an episode of SatAM one day and get AoStH the next . . .

Well you can count on me one of your several resident Brits to write to a few TV stations requesting the show. True I've never written anything like this before but that was because when people talked about all that letter writing campaigns at the end of the day it all amounted to nothing, it was just Disney saying no and deep down I knew that it would be in vane. However this is different because my letters will be backed up by DiC's own ad campaign so I won't be just spitting in the wind.

Well, at least in Germany Astosh and SatAM were treated as ONE big Sonic series, so why not just continue it?
I hope Ultunate Sonic does come down here, and I'd even rip it for you - but have the German dubs any use for you?

I bought a copy of the old Sonic Anime in Japanese . . . I grabbed a translated script off the 'net and read it while I watched the tape, and loved every minute of it. I don't think a German dub will phase me much, and it'd be interesting to hear the German versions of the voices anyway. Plus, most of us probably have the majority of the dialouge memorized, so we wouldn't even need English scripts to follow along. Anyway, with this thread brought back to life . . . I'll go do some digging around the 'net tomorrow and see what I can find about Totally Sonic! . . . MIPCOM was supposed to have happened at the end of last month, after all, so maybe something's up.

I can't seem to find anything about Totally Sonic!, but I did find something of interest . . . Disney doesn't own DiC anymore. Happened about three years ago, too, thanks to an investment group called Bain Capital, Inc. . . . which means that the MIPCOM deal probably is an attempt by them to try and get all their shared properties (such as Sonic the Hedgehog) out from under Disney's shadow. Hope some news that they were successful pops up soon . . . I'll keep looking . . .

This proclamation that DiC was going to buy themselves back from Disney was what first tipped me off. Further searching brought up the DiC website itself (which I had, upon previous viewings, thought held no interesting information whatsoever . . . seems I was wrong) . . . according to this, the deal went through and DiC hasn't been a Disney subsidary since November 2000. They still work close with the big D on a few joint projects, but otherwise remain autonomous. I've also found that Sonic wasn't the only item that they were pushing at MIPCOM . . . but it seems that it was the main thing. Further, according to this, showing at MIPCOM was just part of a larger push into the international market during the fourth quarter in 2003-2004. Of particular interest, they're signing up deals with companies in Germany, the UK, and Aussie-land! So even if they didn't sign up Totally Sonic! with anyone at MIPCOM (which seems unlikely . . . surely out of the hundreds of companies there, one of them would have been interested), they'll probably keep pushing it and other products of theirs in y'all's necks of the woods over the next year.

Well I'll be buggered. Us aussies actually got a bloody mention for once? 'Bout friggen time. This still doesn't feel me with a whole lot of hope for SatAM actuallty being re-aired down here. I mean, the cunts never released the bloody Super Sonic DVD down here. Ohh...but I did manage to pick me self up all 24 episodes of Evangelion on DVD.....which has absolutley bloody nothin' to do with this thread..... I got me fingers crossed for this Totally Sonic actually becomin' a reality though. We can only wish can't we? ;D
