I thought it would be a nice idea to create a topic specially to talk about Fleetway, the good points and the bad as well as your own experence with the series.
Well I was a fan of Fleetway long before SatAM and while SatAM does make Feeltway look pretty awful none the less the comic did have it's moments.
In the beginning the comic was terrible and based itself on the games only it was worse with Robotnik being really lame and there being no sense of danger. In short it was very much like Adventures with one exception in which Tails was tricked into becoming a robot and by Robotnik since he was jealous of Sonic. That story was great and Tails really did beat Sonic up bad for a while. I guess that was the first sign of the seriousness that would later dominate the comic as it moved away from cheesy comedy and into drama and action.
For me the comic did not take off until the story with the viewer that showed Sonic's origin and ended up transporting him and a group of his friends into the future. Then things got very dark, very quickly with the discovery that Robotnik had taken over the entire planet and turned the whole population into slaves.
The comic then concerned itself with freedom fighting, much like our beloved SatAM and on the way it introduced many interesting characters and really good storylines.
Characters
Amy: I'll be honest I hate Saga Amy and Archie Amy but Fleetway Amy was COMPLETELY different. She was not some ditzy annoying Sonic fan (ok she was at first but her character changed very quickly) but a tough fighter that you could respect.
Johnny Lightfoot: For those that don't know him, he was a rabbit freedom fighter. Sadly little effort was ever made to develop his character and he was always just in the background so to speak.
Porker Lewis: For those that don't know him he was a freedom fighter pig with a specialty in computers. Now this was a character that I really liked, over the course of the comic he goes through hell when he's captured by the brotherhood of matalix (sp) and while they never go into any great detail because it is a kids comic it is hinted at that he was tortured quite badly by them and he later breaks down and gives up freedom fighting because he just could not handle it anymore.
Shortfuse: Now he was by no means bad character, a squirrel trapped inside indescribable body armour that had found a way to resist Robotnik's programming. The problem was that even at a young age I knew a cliché when I saw one. The whole I'm angry and want revenge thing just got a bit boring after a while and they could have done more with his character.
Knuckles: Well I've never, ever liked the guy, he just annoys the hell out of me.
Well I'll write more later, this time focusing on the less featured characters and continuing my analyses of the way the comic progressed, but for now what are other peoples thoughts?
