I agree with Jim on Spinball, it always was one of my favorite Sonic games. I never did like pinball all that much though, maybe it was just that Sonic touch.
My mom absolutely loved Mean Bean Machine, even though she has no recollection of playing it...

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but didn't the bonus thing feature Sally, Bunnie , Antoine and a few other SatAm characters? 0_0 Forgive me if this has been mentioned already--I've only barely skimmed this thread.
And if the purpose oif this thread is to say the reason for your preference of SatAM, mine was the characters: No other Sonic series has quite touched on such a progressive storyline devoted to developing characters with multiple good and bad qualities, inner conflicts, and evolutions. I also was a fan of the music and voiceovers, and general more mature, sophisticated quality of storytelling.

Yay! Lady Ealain's here! Anywho, yah, Sally and the crew were in the bonus level of Sonic Spinball, mostly because the game was developed by Sega of America, not Japan.

SatAM was not only a smart marketing decision, but a chance to give Sonic fans something to delve into. SatAM did take Sonic to new levels... especially with the plot and villain. Robotnik was given a complete makeover, from a goofy, clownish looking mad scientist to an evil overlord, but still recognizable by fans of the games. Sonic's wide variation in continuities means a wider variety of fans, which means more money...

I've always considered SatAM to be food for thought in the Sonic fandom. ;D
